Reaching Students through Internet Training
Business Challenge
A college client had purchased a software application that allowed its students to review transcript information, track progress toward a degree, and register for classes via the web. The registrar wanted to present the software to incoming first-year students prior to orientation. The software would prepare new students to meet with advisory staff and register for classes with minimal support. The initial application would run on the campus intranet, but the client wanted to enable new students to learn about the application from home. The application would also be available to advisory staff and students on campus.
Solution
The client selected Gillespie Associates for several reasons, one of which was our efficient communication with their IT department and Office of the Registrar. Due to the distance between the campus and our offices, we had only one face-to-face meeting with the client. All other interaction took place via telephone or e-mail.
Gillespie Associates quickly established working relationships with key contacts on campus. Clear indicators of success were identified and factored into resource plans and timetables. Specific attributes of the target audience were identified, including technical skill level, typical technology platforms, and language level.
Our team created a user interface and graphics style that would enable learning for this primarily younger audience. Storyboards were designed, approved by the client, and converted to the appropriate media for installation on the client's servers.
